My dear friend Tom Feelings loved the blues. His work included images of famous female blues and jazz singers. He once drew me as I sang at jazz concert. So, for his 70th birthday his gift from me was this song.
It's a bluesy snapshot of his life and work. I first sang it at his Brooklyn, NY birthday bash. It echoes the sentiments I've heard and read expressed repeatedly, by those who loved him.
If you knew Tom and his work, I’m sure you’ll understand this song. If you didn't know him, let me introduce you through this song!
Little Boy
Son of Anna & Sam
You were just a little boy then
Comin up on Putnam Avenue
Who knew what you would do
Who knew what you would be
Who knew what you would bring
To us to help us see
Like that Tommy Traveling
You images unraveling
The tangled lies that bound us
You brought em up
brought em out
Put em where the whole wide world could see
Thank you
