This song was originally written for a group of men in a Detroit, half-way house program. They were working their way back into society after serving time in prison.

More recently, I also see it as a tribute to the countless, brave, African American women...starting with my Grandmother and Mother...whose decisions and sacrifices paved the way for my voice to be heard. They decided and here I am – deciding for the next generation.
